for a generation completely removed from 8mm home videos i feel that VHS is our 8mm home footage. it doesn’t have the same weepy/nostalgic feel that 8mm but my/our generation doesn’t look back on our past as fondly as the older gens do. maybe because it’s not grainy and doesn’t flicker. instead we have scanlines and static.
I’m seeing this thread from my first post about desensitization and wonder what the next generation’s barometer for nostalgia will be…it’ll all be right there infront of them on youtube? will it be the compressed video look?
people will be shooting things on cell phones and remembering the charlie bit my finger video like it was their own.
anyway i’m not completing my sentences and haven’t written in a while, so excuse the half finished thoughts.
